Structure and material hold memory
My work examines the evidence
01 TRACES OF MEMORY
02 ENDURANCE OF CARE
03 CONDITONS OF ABSENCE
04 ACTS OF REPAIR
05 NOTIONS OF BELONGING
06 MAKING FUTURES
Repair — to anyone or anything — is an act of care, but it is never without consequence.
Every repair leaves another trace, becoming part of the accumulated material history it seeks to protect. The care lies in deciding what to retain, what to alter and how gently we add our own mark.
We therefore need to understand not only what should be repaired, but how our actions will interleave with what is already present: how they may affect belonging, alter traces of memory and contribute to the construction of futures.
Only then should we act - mindful that when we act - we add to the sediment of history.
